Posted 1 month ago with 23,843 notesWhen I taught my unit on color theory last semester, one of the assignments I give my students is to try and match their skin tone with acrylic paint. It’s really an exercise in using compliments to create neutrals and to also demonstrate how tricky flesh tones can be for any skin type.
During the project, I mentioned to my students of how not too long ago the peach/apricot hued crayon was labeled as “flesh”. They were kinda in shock at the prospect, finding the fact hard to believe. I then mentioned how most band-aids are toned to match Caucasian skin, something my non-white students were very aware of but something that never crossed the mind of my white students. We ended up having a pretty good dialogue for the class, not to mention my students made some bitchin’ samples of their own skin tones.
and still none of these fit me
